Seahorses One Year Olds
Welcome to the Seahorses class! This class is a small group of 12 to 23 month old children led by two teaching partners. The simple Bible truth "Jesus loves you" is the foundation upon which this class builds all other activities and goals. Goals for this class fall into three major categories: Introduction to God through His written word, increasing emotional maturation, and guidance toward appropriate social interaction.
Through daily Bible stories, we introduce the concept of God and His work in our world. Focusing on the Bible as the very word of God gives children something concrete to use as a foundation for future spiritual growth. By loving these children and their families with the love of Jesus, relationships are formed which enable each child to mature emotionally and to grow in confidence in themselves and their school surroundings. This confidence allows them to begin to view their peers as their friends, worthy of love and respect. Using "play" as our framework, guidance is given to move each child toward appropriate social engagement with his or her peers and teachers. Our centers-based classroom allows the teachers to offer a wide variety of fine motor and large motor, and academic and non-academic activities, each of which exposes children of this age to new concepts and ideas while they are "playing" at school.
These young children even participate in a daily learning circle, wherein they are exposed to rudimentary academic material. The good habits of listening, participating, and taking turns are all introduced during this time. Enrichment in the form of music classes, movement classes, outdoor playground time and inclusion in school wide extra-curricular activities ensures the Seahorses a well balanced introduction to their first year in a structured pre-school environment.
